Luxembourg's annual consumer price inflation increased in September, the Central Service for Statistics and Economic Studies said Wednesday.
The consumer price index rose 2.4% year-on-year in September, faster than a 2.2% rise in the previous month. Prices of food and soft drinks increased 1.91% and prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose 2.59%.
Housing, water, electricity and fuels prices climbed 5.67% in September and transport charges advanced 2.89%. In contrast, clothing and footwear prices slipped 0.01%.
On a monthly basis, the consumer price index rose 0.03% in September, after a flat reading in August. Food and soft drinks prices grew 0.14% and clothing and footwear prices rose 0.32%.
Luxembourg's economy contracted for the first time in four quarters during the April to June period. The gross domestic product, or GDP, declined 0.3% sequentially in the second quarter, following a 0.8% increase in the first quarter.
