The Australian dollar surged up sharply against most major opponents during early New York trading on Friday. At 8:35 am ET, the Aussie jumped to a new multi-week high of 1.3867 against the euro from yesterday's close of 1.4003. Against the Japanese yen, the Aussie also advanced further and hit a fresh multi-month high of 82.68 by about 8:45 am ET.
