Former Volkswagen AG boss Martin Winterkorn refuted claims he knew about the carmaker's organized emissions cheating prior to its official admission.
Winterkorn, addressing the German parliament's panel of inquiry into automakers' emissions violations, reiterated that is not the case and he is finding acceptable answers as well.
When legislators asked why he has no early knowledge, the ex-VW chief said software programs comprise only a specific portion of work in enhancing the engine.
Earlier, Volkswagen admitted to US authorities around 40 employees removed thousands of papers in order to conceal emissions test rigging.
