2017.01.2523:00:00UTC+00Facebook, Google scramble to halt spread of fake news

Facebook and Google have been implementing measures aimed at curtailing the number of fabricated news articles posted throughout their sites, signifying the early phase of their fight against fake news.

The social network company rolled out changes to its Trending Topics to further promote credible articles. It will now feature a publisher headline beneath each the topic's name to give users more context before reading an article.

The technology company announced it permanently barred almost 200 publishers from AdSense near the end of 2016 following it implemented a rule to eliminate websites which seek to delude users from its advertising network.

Both firms have been widely lambasted over how their websites may have spread deceitful contents at a huge scale, as well as how little liability they assume for any of the item that appears on their platforms.
