Brazil's general price index, or IGP-10, rose 0.49% in January compared to 1.27% rise in the previous month, the Foundation Getulio Vargas, or FGV, said Monday. Economists had forecast an increase of 0.47%.
IGP-10 is calculated on the basis of data collected between 11th of the previous month and the 10th of the current month.
Within the IGP-10, the producer price index increased 0.35% during the month compared to 1.46% rise in December. Similarly, the consumer price index registered an increase of 0.9% compared to 1.05% rise in the preceding month.
In a separate release, FGV said that Brazil's weekly consumer price index, or IPC-S, rose 1.06% in the second week of January. This was broadly in line with economists' forecast of a 1.05% increase.
