The euro earlier touched its highest against the yen since May 2010 of 123.33 yen.
The euro later trimmed its gains and last stood at 122.62 yen.
The Australian dollar touched a high of 90.04 yen earlier, its highest since September 2008.
It later trimmed some of its gains and was last up 0.1 pct at 89.64 yen.
The Aussie dollar rose 0.1 pct against the dollar to $1.0573.
