New car registrations in Europe decreased from last year in October, after increasing for two consecutive months, data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) revealed Wednesday.

Sales of new passenger cars in the European Union (EU), excluding Cyprus and Malta, declined 1.8 percent year-on-year to 1,005,976 in October, after rising 0.7 percent in September. In August, new car registrations had advanced 7.7 percent.

Sales in the United Kingdom rose 2.6 percent annually, while sales in France increased 2.4 percent in October. In Germany, the largest European market, the annual rate of growth remained stable a 0.6 percent.

Meanwhile, car sales in Italy and Spain declined by 5.5 percent and 6.7 percent respectively during the month.

In the January-October period, new car registrations decreased 1.2 percent from the corresponding period last year. The number of unit sold during the ten-month period was 11,126,436, the agency said.
