Australia posted a trade surplus of A$970 million in January, according to data published Thursday by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The seasonally adjusted balance compared to a December surplus of A$417 million.
The statistics bureau said imports in January declined 7.0 percent compared to December, to a seasonally adjusted total of A$19.57 billion.
January exports declined 5.0 percent on month to A$21.91 billion.
The January trade surplus compared to a deficit of A$2.34 billion recorded one year earlier.
