British Airways said it would undertake efforts to make sure that the computer system failure that left 75, 000 travelers stranded over the weekend and has caused turmoil in UK airports would never happen again.

The carrier has been forced to halt all flights from Heathrow and Gatwick after a power supply issue threw a wrench into its global operations and also affected BA's call center and online site.

The airline managed to restore some of its operations on Monday and is planning to push through with over 95 percent of flights London Heathrow and Gatwick will only a handful and short-haul flights that were postponed.

BA CEO Alex Cruz said the computer failure was due to a power surge that hit the airline's flight, baggage and communication systems. The surge was too powerful that even the back up systems were non-operational.

The airline expects to run a full flight schedule at Heathrow on Tuesday. The London airport said it was working closely with the airline to deliver delayed bags to respective passengers as soon as possible. BA announced on its websites that their IT systems are running at full capacity again.
