President Donald Trump's plan to withdraw America from the 2015 Paris Climate agreement is facing unexpected opposition, including two biggest oil producers in the world, Exxon Mobil Corp. and ConocoPhillips.

Both firms reiterated their support for the deal struck by several nations last year to reduce greenhouse gas pollution amid reports surfacing that Trump is planning to scrap the deal that he perceives will hinder the U.S. economy's growth.

Exxon's shareholders took a step further in expressing their opposition to the plan, as they backed a historic motion requiring the company to evaluate the threats from climate change. The plan was proposed by investors and was supported by over 62 percent of those qualified to vote.

Speaking at the firm's annual investors meeting, Exxon CEO Darren Woods said that oil demand is anticipated to continue rising in the following decades, even with the U.S. joining the Paris deal. The Exxon executive has been a vocal advocate for keeping U.S. in the Paris agreement, similar to his predecessor Rex Tillerson.

The world's biggest independent oil and gas producer, ConocoPhillips, also voiced its support for the agreement. A spokesperson stated that the deal allows the U.S. the ability to be part of further climate discussions needed in order to protect the country's economic and environmental interests.
