Bitcoin gained over 8%, breaking above the $2,900 mark, before ditching some of its gains.
On Tuesday, bitcoin recorded a peak of $2,967.48. The virtual currency then relinquished some advances and stood at $2,779.67. Ethereum added almost 3%, cashing in on its Monday gains and its huge year-to-day increases.
The digital currency marked an impressive year, climbing close to 200%, as it outmatched stock market indexes such as the Nasdaq and the S&P 500. But, on May 25, it lost over $300 following it rose more than 12% in the same session.
