Asian shares were mixed Wednesday as Chinese data matched projections and investors awaited the Federal Reserve's future policy direction.
Data showed China's industrial output and retail sales outmatched expectations last month. But fixed-asset investment fell short of forecasts. The Fed is set to reveal its decision Thursday.
Japan's Nikkei 225 gained 0.21%, while the Topix index was flat as the information technology sector added 0.2%. MSCI's broadest index of Asia Pacific stocks increased a fraction. Shanghai and Shenzhen shares lost 0.5% and 0.3%, respectively. South Korean stocks tumbled 0.2%, while Hong Kong shares fell 0.4%.
Toshiba stocks were under fire following the conglomerate announced a lawsuit was seeking around ¥43.9 billion ($399 million) for losses caused by its dodgy accounting. A Reuters report, quoting a local report, said the company could delay filing its yearly report.
