Asian indexes finished mostly lower on Wednesday following a soft lead from Wall Street, as the vote on a bill to replace Obamacare in the United States was delayed.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 dropped 0.47 percent to end at 20,130.41 while South Korea's Kospi fell 0.39 percent to 2,382.56.
Markets in greater China were also lower. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index slipped 0.61 percent. The Shanghai Composite dropped 0.54 percent to end at 3,173.9033 while the Shenzhen Composite fell 0.799 percent to close at 1,883.3713.
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 bucked the trend to end higher by 0.73 percent at 5,755.7, led by advances in the materials, energy and financials sub-indexes.
Among shares active on corporate news, Toshiba held its annual meeting. The Japanese conglomerate promised to sign a deal for the sale of its memory chip business but stated earlier that the “negotiation is still continuing”. Shares of Toshiba dropped 1.84 percent to end at 287.6 yen per stock.
