China's National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday said industrial profit growth in the country rose at faster pace in May.

After surging 14.0 percent in April, industrial profits accelerated an annual 16.7 percent in May.

The statistical office registered an increase of 22.7 percent in industrial enterprises total profits during the first five months of 2017, down from the same period a year ago when it rose 24.4 percent.

Earnings at state-owned firms jumped 53.3 percent and private firm's profits climbed by 14.0 percent in the January to May period.
