Over 90 percent of Italians who took part of an informal ballot gave their approval to a policy agenda from the far-right League and the 5-Star Movement, as the two parties reach an agreement on a candidate to head their planned coalition government.

The government “contract” between the two parties that received the most votes in the March 4 national election was released to the public on Friday after 11 weeks of political deadlock in the euro area's third-biggest economy.

The League, which laid out the ballot stands across the nation, said in a statement that 91 percent of 215, 000 citizens who cast their vote were in favor of the plan and many had given suggestions for revisions or additions.

League leader Matteo Salvini said that the two parties had finished their talks over a candidate for prime minister, confirming the appointee would be a “balanced name”. He said that it would neither be him or the leader of the anti-establishment 5-star Party, Luigi Di Maio.

He expressed his hope that there will be no vetoes on the choices that were said to reflect the vote of the majority of Italian citizens. The statement was echoed by Di Maio. Both leaders did not drop the name of the person. The leaders are expected to meet on Monday with President Sergio Mattarella, who must give his seal of approval to the program and has a final say on the appointment of the prime minister.
