The Aussie hopped up half a U.S. cent to $0.9504 as government data showed approvals to build new homes surged 14.4 percent in September, far above forecasts.
The number of approvals was the highest since March 2010 while their dollar value was the highest on record, a comfort to the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) which has been counting on home construction to underpin growth as mining cools.
