Japan will on Tuesday release March figures for retail trade, highlighting a modest day for Asia-Pacific economic activity.

Retail sales are expected to add 0.6 percent on month but fall 7.5 percent on year after rising 0.7 percent on month and losing 1.7 percent on year in February. Sales from large retailers are predicted to tumble 11.3 percent on year after adding 1.3 percent in the previous month.

Japan also will see April figures for its small business confidence index, with analysts looking for a score of 49.0 - down from 49.8 in March.

Australia will see February results for the leading and coincident indexes from the Conference Board; in January, they were up 0.4 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.

The Philippines will release February numbers for imports, exports and trade balance. In January, imports were worth $5.11 billion and exports were at $4.36 billion for a trade deficit of $752 million.

Hong Kong will provide March data for imports, exports and trade balance. Imports are expected to ease 0.5 percent on year after dipping 0.9 percent in February. Exports are called higher by an annual 2.1 percent after climbing 7.2 percent in the previous month. The trade balance is expected to show a deficit of 45 billion Hong Kong dollars following the 35.9 billion HKD shortfall a month earlier.
