Brazil's unemployment rate increased as expected in November to the highest level in the series history, figures from the statistical office IBGE showed Thursday.

The jobless rate rose to 11.9 percent in the September to November period from 11.8 percent in the June to August period. The figure also matched consensus estimate.

Moreover, the latest unemployment rate was the highest since the series began in 2012, the agency said.

In the corresponding mobile quarter last year, the jobless rate was 9.0 percent.

There were 12.1 million unemployed people in November, which was 2.9 percent higher than a year earlier.
