The service sector in Australia continued to expand in December, and at an accelerated rate, the latest survey from the Australian Industry Group showed on Friday with a PMI score of 57.7.
That's up sharply from 51.1 in November, and it moves further above the boom-or-bust line of 50 that separates expansion from contraction.
It also marks the highest score for the index since May 2007.
"Sales and new orders were particularly strong across many services sub-sectors pointing to the likelihood of a strong start to the new year," AiG chief executive Innes Willox said in a statement.
