New Zealand's net migration increased in February from a year ago, figures from Statistics New Zealand showed Tuesday.

In the year to February 28, the country recorded a net migration of 71,333, up from 67,391 in the same period last year. Moreover, this equalled the previous annual record set in January 2017.

Migrant arrivals numbered 128,800 in February, a new annual record, while migrant departures were 57,500.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, net migration declined to 6,000 in February from 6,410 in January.

Visitor arrivals to the country numbered 3.54 million in February, up 11.0 percent from a year earlier. Overseas trips by New Zealand residents made a new record of 2.66 million, grew 10.6 percent from last year.
