Mexico's foreign trade balance turned to a surplus in April from a deficit in the previous year, as exports rose and imports fell,figures from the statistical office INEGI showed Thursday.
The trade balance showed a surplus of $617 million in April versus a deficit of $2.1 billion in the corresponding month of 2016. Economists had expected the deficit to narrow to $1.58 billion.
Exports climbed 3.6 percent year-over-year in April, while imports declined by 5.0 percent.
