South Africa's producer price inflation accelerated as expected in May, though slightly, figures from Statistics South Africa showed Thursday.
Producer prices for final manufactured goods climbed 4.8 percent year-over-year in May, following a 4.6 percent rise in April, which was the weakest PPI inflation since November 2015.
The figure also matched consensus estimate.
The price index for electricity and water grew 6.4 percent annually in May and those of intermediate manufactured goods rose by 3.1 percent. At the same time, the price index for mining registered a decline of 3.0 percent.
On a monthly basis, producer prices went up 0.5 percent in May, in line with expectations.
