India's industrial production declined unexpectedly in June on weak manufacturing activity, data from the Central Statistics Office revealed Friday.

Industrial output fell 0.1 percent in June from a year ago, reversing a revised 2.8 percent expansion in May. Production was forecast to climb 0.1 percent in June.

While mining and electricity output grew 0.4 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively, output in manufacturing dropped 0.4 percent.

During the quarter ended June, industrial production advanced 2 percent from the corresponding period of previous year.
