At 4:00 am ET Friday, Germany's Ifo business confidence survey results are due. Economists forecast the index to fall to 115.5 in August from 116 in July.
Ahead of the data, the euro dropped against its major rivals.
The euro was worth 1.1782 against the greenback, 129.21 against the yen, 1.1368 against the franc and 0.9205 against the pound as of 3:55 am ET.
