South Africa's producer price inflation eased at a slower-than-expected pace in July, figures from Statistics South Africa showed Thursday.
Producer prices for manufactured goods climbed 3.6 percent year-over-year in July, slower than the 4.0 percent rise in June. Economists had expected the PPI inflation to moderate to 3.5 percent.
The price index for electricity and water grew 3.5 percent annually in July and those of intermediate manufactured goods rose by 1.5 percent. At the same time, the price index for mining registered a decline of 0.9 percent.
On a monthly basis, producer prices increased 0.5 percent in July, faster than the expected rise of 0.2 percent.
