Finland's consumer price inflation accelerated marginally in August, after easing in the prior month, figures from Statistics Finland showed Thursday.

The consumer price index climbed 0.7 percent year-over-year in August, faster than the 0.5 percent rise in July. The measure has been rising since April 2016.

Transport costs grew 2.4 percent annually in August and health costs went up by 1.5 percent. Meanwhile, prices of clothing and footwear registered a decline of 2.9 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.3 percent from July, when it dropped by 0.3 percent.

The EU measure of inflation, or HICP increased 0.8 percent yearly and by 0.2 percent monthly in August.
