Italy's consumer price inflation accelerated marginally as initially estimated in August, latest figures from the statistical office Istat showed Thursday.

Consumer prices climbed 1.2 percent year-over-year in August, just above the 1.1 percent rise in July. That was in line with the flash data published on August 31.

Excluding energy and unprocessed food, core inflation was 1.0 percent in August, up from 0.8 percent in the prior month.

Inflation, based on the harmonized index of consumer prices, increased to 1.4 percent from 1.2 percent a month ago.

Month-on-month, the HICP edged up 0.1 percent. Thus, the flash estimate was confirmed.
