Austria's inflation accelerated slightly in August largely on food and clothing costs, Statistics Austria reported Monday.

Inflation rose to 2.1 percent in August from 2 percent in July.

Food prices increased at a faster pace of 2.5 percent and clothing and footwear prices recovered, by gaining 1.1 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.1 percent in August.

Inflation, based on harmonized index of consumer prices, also climbed to 2.1 percent from 2 percent a month ago. Month-on-month, the HICP remained flat in August.
