Finland's unemployment rate held steady in August after falling in the previous two months, figures from Statistics Finland showed Tuesday.

The jobless rate came in at 7.5 percent in August, the same rate as in July. In the corresponding month last year, the rate was 7.2 percent.

The number of unemployed people fell to 202,000 in August from 207,000 in July. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 195,000.

The youth unemployment rate, which applies to the 15 to 24 age group, dropped to 14.4 percent in August from 11.7 percent in the previous month.

The employment rate was 60.8 percent in August versus 62.1 percent in the preceding month.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate edged down to 8.6 percent in August from 8.7 percent in July.
