Italy's unemployment rate decreased slightly in August, in line with expectations, data from the statistical office Istat showed Monday.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 11.2 percent in August from 11.3 percent in July. The figure also matched consensus estimate.

In the corresponding month last year, the jobless rate was 11.5 percent.

The number of unemployed declined by 1.4 percent from the previous month to 2.903 million in August.

The jobless rate among youth, aged between 15 and 24, decreased to 35.1 percent from 35.4 percent in July.
