Sweden's consumer price inflation held steady in September, after easing marginally in the prior month, figures from Statistics Sweden showed Thursday.

The consumer price index climbed 2.1 percent year-over-year in September, the same rate of increase as in August. Meanwhile, economists had expected the inflation to rise to 2.4 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent from August, when it dropped by 0.2 percent.

Underlying inflation also remained stable at 2.3 percent September. It was forecast to accelerate to 2.5 percent.

Monthly, underlying CPI went up 0.2 percent in September, reversing a 0.1 percent drop in the preceding month.
