Bulgaria's consumer price inflation accelerated in September, after easing in the previous four months, figures from the National Statistical Institute showed Friday.

The consumer price index rose 2.1 percent year-over-year in September, faster than the 1.4 percent climb in July. The measure has been rising since December 2016.

Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew 3.9 percent annually in September and utility costs went up by 4.0 percent. Meanwhile, clothing and footwear prices dropped 2.2 percent.

Month-on-month, consumer prices increased 0.2 percent from August, when it edged up by 0.1 percent.

The EU measure of inflation, or HICP climbed 1.3 percent yearly in September, while it decreased 0.2 percent from the prior month.
