Sweden's unemployment rate climbed in September, data from Statistics Sweden showed Thursday.

The jobless rate rose to 6.2 percent in September from 6 percent in August. The rate was forecast to remain stable at 6 percent.

In the corresponding period of 2016, the unemployment rate was 6.1 percent.

The number of unemployed persons increased to 331,900 from 325,700 in the previous month.

At the same time, the employment rate declined to 68.1 percent in September from 69.0 percent in August.

The jobless rate, on a seasonally adjusted basis, came in at 6.7 percent in September.
