Taiwan's consumer prices increased unexpectedly in November, after falling in the previous month, figures from the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics showed Tuesday.

The consumer price index rose 0.35 percent year-over-year in November, reversing a 0.33 percent fall in October. Meanwhile, economists had expected a 0.2 percent decrease for the month.

Food prices declined 2.68 percent annually in November and prices of clothing edged down by 0.13 percent. At the same time, housing costs grew 1.33 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.24 percent in November.

The statistical office also revealed that wholesale prices climbed at a slower rate of 1.57 percent annually in November, after a 1.93 percent rise in the prior month. It was forecast to rise by 1.25 percent.
