Australia's consumer confidence improved during the week ended December 17, a weekly survey compiled by the ANZ bank and Roy Morgan Research showed Tuesday.

The consumer confidence index climbed to 116.5 from 115.1 in the preceding week.

Among components, all sub-indices except 'time to buy a household item' remained positive.

Sentiment towards both current and future economic conditions rose for the third straight week.

"ANZ-Roy Morgan Consumer Confidence ended the year with a broad based increase, likely fuelled by last week's bumper jobs report, another strong performance by the Australian cricket team and some good old Christmas cheer," ANZ's head of Australian Economics, David Plank, commented.
