At 4.00 am ET Thursday, Germany's Ifo business confidence survey results are due. Economists expect the business sentiment index to fall to 117 in January from 117.2 in December.
Ahead of the data, the euro dropped against its major rivals.
The euro was worth 135.40 against the yen, 1.1695 against the franc, 0.8694 against the pound and 1.2399 against the greenback as of 3:55 am ET.
