The National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla affirmed its engagement in the efforts to seek peace in Colombia, said the left-wing armed group chief negotiator, Pablo Beltran.
In statements released through Twitter, Beltran assured that "Colombia can count on us to keep this effort to find a political solution," despite having to find a new headquarters after Ecuador resigned to the sponsorship of the peace process. "We have just decided to take the dialogue to another country," he said in a recording.
Since the talks between the Colombian government and the guerrillas began in February 2017, four rounds have been completed, and the fifth was being held to achieve a new ceasefire. Currently, Colombia's Episcopal Conference and a United Nations mission are evaluating the previous 101-day cease-fire between October 2017 and January 2018.
Last week, the Ecuadorean president, Lenin Moreno, announced surprisingly that his country was no longer sponsoring the peace process until the ELN "cease its terrorist activities."
Both Colombia and the guerrillas are searching for a new headquarters for the peace talks.
