South Korea's unemployment rate decreased more than expected in June, figures from Statistics Korea showed Wednesday.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate dropped to 3.7 percent in June from 4.0 percent in May. The rate was expected to fall to 3.9 percent.

In the corresponding month last year, the unemployment rate was 3.8 percent.

On an unadjusted basis, the jobless rate also decreased to 3.7 percent from 4.0 percent.

The number of unemployed people decreased to 1.03 million in June from 1.12 million in the preceding month.
