As expected, the Bank of Canada raised rates by a quarter-point to 1.50 percent from 1.25 percent. Following the decision, the loonie strengthened against its major rivals.
The loonie was trading at 84.87 against the yen, 1.5385 against the euro, 1.3097 against the greenback and 0.9696 against the aussie around 10:02 am ET.
