South Africa's inflation accelerated in July on higher housing and transport costs, figures from Statistics South Africa showed Wednesday.
Consumer price inflation rose to 5.1 percent in July, in line with expectations, from 4.6 percent in June. A similar higher rate was last seen in September 2017.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices gained 0.8 percent in July, as expected.
Data showed that consumer prices for goods grew 5.3 percent on year and that for services advanced 5 percent. Housing and utilities prices climbed 5.2 percent and transport costs surged 10 percent.
