South Africa's producer price inflation accelerated further in July to the highest level in just over one-and-a-half years, figures from Statistics South Africa showed Thursday.

Producer prices climbed 6.1 percent year-over-year in July, faster than the 5.9 percent rise in June.

Moreover, this was the highest rate of growth since December 2016, when prices had grown 7.1 percent.

The overall PPI Inflation was mainly driven by higher prices of coke, petroleum, chemical, rubber & plastic products and transport equipment.

On a monthly basis, producer prices increased 0.6 percent in July.
