Greece's consumer price inflation accelerated marginally in August, data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Monday.

Consumer prices climbed 1.0 percent year-over-year in August, just above the 0.9 percent rise in July.

Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew 1.0 percent annually in August and transport costs rose by 3.1 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.3 percent from July, when it declined by 1.8 percent.

Inflation, based on the harmonized index of consumer prices rose to 0.9 percent in August from 0.8 percent in the prior month.

Month-on-month, the HICP edged down 0.2 percent in August, following a 1.4 percent fall in the preceding month.
