Finland's unemployment rate increased in August after falling in the previous two months, figures from Statistics Finland showed Tuesday.

The jobless rate climbed to 6.8 percent in August from July's 6.5 percent, which was the weakest since November 2011.

In the corresponding month last year, the rate was 7.5 percent.

The number of unemployed people rose to 186,000 in August from 183,000 in July. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 202,000.

The youth unemployment rate, which applies to the 15 to 24 age group, increased notably to 13.6 percent in August from 9.4 percent in the previous month.

The employment rate came in at 62.2 percent in August, down from 63.8 percent in July.

At the same time, the seasonally adjusted jobless rate held steady at 7.5 percent in August.
