Malta's unemployment rate decreased in the three months ended June, figures from the National Statistics Office showed Thursday.

The unemployment rate dropped to 3.8 percent in the second quarter from 3.9 percent in the corresponding period of 2017.

The number of unemployed people totaled 9,159 in the June quarter, up from 8,887 from a year ago.

At the same time, the employment rate climbed to 60.2 percent from 57.4 percent.

The activity rate for the second quarter was estimated at 73.5 percent, with the highest rate recorded among persons aged 25-54.
