Overall bank lending in Japan was up 2.3 percent on year in September, the Bank of Japan said on Thursday - coming in at 528.660 trillion yen.
That exceeded expectations for an increase of 2.2 percent, which would have been unchanged from the previous month.
Excluding trusts, bank lending again was up 2.3 percent on year - beating forecasts for a gain of 2.2 percent, which would have been unchanged from the August reading.
Lending from trusts gained an annual 2.2 percent or 68.904 trillion yen, while lending from foreign banks skyrocketed 49.7 percent on year or 3.220 trillion yen.
