South Africa's wholesale sales expanded for the second straight month in August and at the fastest pace in two years, Statistics South Africa reported Thursday.

Wholesale trade sales increased 4 percent annually, faster than the 1.2 percent rise posted in July and the second consecutive rise. This was the biggest expansion since August 2016, when sales were up 4.8 percent.

Similarly, monthly increase in wholesale trade improved to 1.2 percent from 1 percent a month ago.

In the three months ended August, wholesale trade sales increased by seasonally adjusted 1.5 percent compared with the previous three months.
