At 4.30 am ET Thursday, the Office for National Statistics is set to issue UK retail sales data for September. Sales including auto fuel are forecast drop 0.4 percent on month after rising 0.3 percent in August.

Ahead of the data, the pound traded mixed against its major counterparts. While the pound dropped against the franc and the euro, it rose against the greenback and the yen.

The pound was worth 1.3112 against the greenback, 147.59 against the yen, 1.3022 against the franc and 0.8785 against the euro as of 4:25 am ET.
