The total number of home loans issued in Australia was down a seasonally adjusted 6.1 percent on month in December, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Tuesday.
That missed expectations for a drop of 2.0 percent following the 0.9 percent contraction in November.
The value of loans sank 5.3 percent on month, also missing expectations for a decline of 3.3 percent following the 1.4 percent fall in the previous month.
