The Czech economy expanded more than expected in the first quarter, preliminary estimate from the Czech Statistical Office showed Wednesday.
Gross domestic product grew 2.5 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, slower than the 2.6 percent growth posted in the fourth quarter. Nonetheless, this was faster than the expected 2.4 percent.
At the same time, the sequential growth eased to 0.5 percent from 0.8 percent a quarter ago.
The statistical office said external demand and household consumption were the main GDP growth factors in the first quarter. Dynamic growth of the gross fixed capital formation continued.
