At 4.30 am ET Thursday, the Office for National Statistics publishes UK retail sales for June. Sales including auto fuel are forecast to fall 0.3 percent month-on-month, following a 0.5 percent drop in May.
Ahead of the data, the pound advanced against its major rivals.
The pound was worth 134.34 against the yen, 1.2293 against the franc, 0.9008 against the euro and 1.2476 against the greenback as of 4:25 am ET.
